"Martha used her nursing abilities to aid many people who needed care. Active in the Ladies Aid, and a charter member of the Womans Club. She was
a person of many talents, a pianist and an artist, leaving many oil paintings to testify to her ability."S1 One oil painting, dated 1885 (the year before her marriage), is of pansies. She also left a watercolor landscape, possibly of Clear Lake, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. Martha was naturally gifted, and also took lessons with an artist when she was still living in Illinois with her parents. She was also interested in genealogy.
