He was born on March 26, 1917, in the Bronx, N.Y., to the late Joseph and Irene Birkins MacMaster. He graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor degree in Finance. An active member of the community, he owned and operated Mohawk Aluminum Corp. and was a volunteer Fireman in Milford. He was a member of the Ansantawae Lodge 89 AF & AM, the Plymouth Men & Club and First United Church of Christ Congregational for more than 50 years. Along with being active in the Coast Guard Aux. serving as past treasurer. Mr. MacMaster is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Merwin MacMaster, devoted children Joseph "Ros" MacMaster and his wife Shanda of Concord, N.H., Christine Moen and her husband, Pieter, of Milford, and Jean Perrin and her husband, Michael, of New Milford, 10 grandchildren, Crystal, Tamara, Lisa, Lynn, Peter, Katelyn, Michael, Debbie, Dawn and Billy, and 12 great-grandchildren. Calling hours are Thursday, January 18, 2006 (sic) from 4 to 7pm at the Smith Funeral Home., 135 Broad St., Milford. A Masonic service will be held immediately following the calling house at 7 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 19, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery. Donations may be made in his name to the First United Church of Christ Congregational, 34 W. Main St., Milford, CT 06460.
