Sister Mary Andre R. S. M., member of the Sisters of Mercy, Regional Community of Detroit. Sister Mary Andre entered at Mt. St. Agnes Novitiate, Dubugue, Iowa, on Sept. 8, 1936. Her sister Winifred Josephine entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1924.

The following is from Sister Maureen McGarrigle, Archivist Detroit Sisters of Mercy- email May 28, 2008 Sister Mary Andre began her ministry doing office work. She then taught the elementary grades for almost 10 years. By then she had received her degree in Business education and spent the next 25 years teaching business education classes in high school. In 1970, she went to our high school in Farmington Hills and was the attendance clerk until 1981 when she came to work for me in the secretarial office at the Provincial motherhouse. She worked there until she retired around 2000. She was a true hockey fan and very proud of her Canadian heritage. Since my Dad was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, we had our Canadian history in common. She was very quiet and reserved - a woman of few words but I enjoyed her companionship and I treasure the card she gave me when I left the Provinvcial motherhouse, "Thanks, pal!" Sister spent her entire ministry in Michigan: Grand Rapids, Bay city, Muskegon, Farmington Hills, to name a few cities.
