Marion James Haveman, age 82, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on January 3, 2012 at the Lynden Christian Health Care Center.
Marion was born at the family home in Lynden on October 23, 1929. He was the sixth child and second son of Henry and Maggie Haveman. After spending his childhood in Lynden, he married Gladys Mulder on December 20, 1950. They then moved to the Tri-Cities area of Washington. While living in the Tri-Cities, they had four children—three sons and one daughter. In 1959, Marion and his family moved to Seattle, WA; where they raised their four children. In 1995, Marion retired from his job as a tanker truck driver. He and Gladys sold their home in Seattle and moved to the Maple Falls area, where they lived for several years. While living in Maple Falls, they also traveled all over the United States; pulling their travel trailer. In 2008, they sold their place at Maple Falls and moved back to Lynden, where they were both closer to their siblings.
Marion was preceded in death by his sister, Henrietta. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Gladys; children Dennis (JennieAnn) of Bothell, WA, Les (Debbie) Haveman of Modesto, CA, Vonnie (Rod) VanDyken of Ripon, CA and Keith (Margaret) Haveman of Lindsay, CA; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother Stanley (Ann, deceased) Haveman; sisters Wanda Haveman, Margaret (Floyd, deceased) Assink and Dorothy (Everett, deceased) Van Loo.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, January 7, 12 noon at Monumenta Cemetery followed by a 1 pm memorial service at United Reformed Church, 8650 Benson Road, Lynden.
