!Pamela's family moved from Canada in about 1887 to Suncook, N.H.. Pamela was about 4 years old. She attended school for about 10 months, and was compelled to work in the cotton mills (for a negligible wage). When she was 11 years old (about 1894), the family returned to Canada for a year prior to returning to North Adams, MA. Pamela moved to Woonsocket, R.I. when she was 13 (about 1896) and Pittsfield, N.H. at 14 years of age. Before her 15th birthday, the family moved cross country to Salix, IA.
