Facts and Events
There were two Bordelons old enough to have been Marie's father listed in Ward 6 of Avoyelles Parish in the 1870 Census: Bazile Bordelon, born 1823, and Pierre Bordelon, born 1798. Bazile Bordelon is the more probable match. Pierre could have been her grandfather. Other than the fact that they were neighbors, there's not much way to prove a connection at present. As they weren't "free colored," they wouldn't have been recorded by name before the 1870 Census, and in 1870, Marie was already living with her husband Michel Ford. Incidentally, the white Bordelons of Avoyelles Parish are a very old Creole family of French descent. They are one of the "first families," meaning they were among the first settlers of the Parish. Their history and the history of black Bordelons in Avoyelles Parish are undoubtedly inextricably linked. The answers to Marie Luise's parentage may very well lie buried in the wills and personal estate records of that family. Luise Ford - United States Census, 1880 |
