notes: Maria Elizabeth Kauffer was born circa 1729, and died circa 1810. Her place of birth is not known at this time. It is an assumption that she died where she was last found in the written record. She married Johann Peter Klingenschmidt circa 1749, probably in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, as Berks County was not created for three more years. The family attended church there at, Oley Hills Union Church, and are found in the records, along with Johann Peter 's brother Johann Philip, and the brothers father, Johann Daniel. Johann Peter is recorded in 1756, as being a resident of Colebrookdale, Berks County. In the late 1760s the family is found in the records of Apple's Lutheran and Reformed Church, near Thurmont, Frederick County, Maryland, probably as they waited to legally settle in Western Pennsylvania in what is now Westmoreland County. The courthouse to file the necessary paperwork would have been in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, north of Frederick County, Maryland. In Westmoreland County, Johann Peter and Maria Elizabeth, and his brother Johann Philip and his wife Christina are found in the Sewickley Settlement, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in the baptism records of Baltzer Meyer, schoolmaster. And Finally, they are found in the records of the Zion Lutheran Congregation, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. All of these paper documents, contemporary to their times, provide solid proof of who they were, and where they were at a specific time. It should be mentioned, this is all in agreement with the historical record on migration to, and the settlement of Western Pennsylvania; proof and agreement other claims do not have.
