Maria Farrell was born on 9th February 1880 in Dublin, daughter of Margaret Farrell, formerly Reid, and her husband Richard Farrell, a tailor. She was baptised a week later at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, with the family's address recorded as 26 Capel Street.

Maria's mother died in 1894, when Maria was 14 years old. The 1901 census find Maria and several of her siblings living with their eldest sister, Julia. Maria has yet to be traced after the 1901 census.Maria married Thomas O'Neill in 1901 then married Edwin Plowman in 1924 Plowman died in 1924
