    MARIA DRAKE,
    Middle River, Ia
Maria Drake, was born in Washington county, Pennsylvania, April 19, 1828, died at her home near Middle River, Iowa, September 26, 1906.

Her maiden name was Maria Crummire and she was the last surviving member of a family of sixteen children. She was married to A. D. Drake, October 14, 1852. They moved to Iowa in 1858 and settled in Webster township, Madison county, Iowa, where she lived until beckoned beyond.

She was a woman of strong character, deeply religious belief and practice and her home was ever open to the itinerant minister. Her early religious life was identified with the Lutheran church but in later years she was an active member of the M. E. church, uniting with that church when the class was organized at Drake school house, near where she lived and many there are who will recall the goodly influence of her work here and later at the Webster church.

For six years past, she had been greatly afflicted and during the past three years was confined to her bed, a helpless invalid.

Her funeral services were conducted at the Webster M. E. church on September 28th, by Rev. W. C. Smith, her former pastor, and the interment made in the Roberts cemetery. She is survived by her husband and four children.

Note: Burial is at the Roberts Cemetery, Adair County, Iowa.
