Personal History

Maria Copley,^[1] daughter of Joseph Copley and Cecil^[1] (Hamilton), was born on 4 March 1803, and she was baptized on 9 April 1803 in the parish of St Marylebone,^[1] Middlesex, England. After her marriage to Viscount Howick, she was styled Viscountess Howick. Upon her husband's succession to the Earldom in 1845, she was titled Countess Grey.

On 20 July 1832, the engagement of Viscount Howick with the daughter of Sir Joseph Copley of Sprotsborough was announced. On 9 August 1832 in the parish of St George, Hanover Square, the Rt. Hon. Henry Grey commonly called Lord Howick of the parish of St Margaret, Westminster, and Maria Copley of the same parish of St George, were married by licence by Edward Hereford.

Death and Probate

Maria Grey's death was registered in the district of Alnwick, co. Northumberland, in 1879.^[2]
