Personal History

Joseph William Copley,[1][2] son of Joseph Copley and Cecil[1] (Hamilton), was born on 26 July 1804, and he was baptized on 13 August in the parish of St Marylebone, Middlesex, England.[1]

Joseph William, the only son of Sir Joseph Copley Bt., matriculated from Christ Church, Oxford, on 25 April 1823, then aged 18 years.[4]

Upon the death of his father on 21 May 1838, Joseph succeeded to the Baronetcy (4th, created 1778).

On 19 November 1831 in the mansion house at Brocklesby, Lincolnshire, Joseph William Copley of Sprotborough Hall, Yorkshire, and the Hon. Charlotte Anderson Worsley Pelham of the parish of Brocklesby were married by special licence by the rector, John Parkinson, in the presence of Joseph Copley [groom's father] and Lord Yarborough [bride's father, then Baron and later Earl].

Death and Probate

Sir Joseph William Copley Bt., then of Sprotborough Hall, in Sprotborough, Yorkshire, died 4 January 1883 at 35 Duke street, in the parish of St. James, Middlesex[2] (registered in the district of Westminster[3]).

On 7 April 1883, at London,[2] his will was proved by the executors, the Rev. William Bridgeman Simpson of Babworth Rectory, Nottinghamshire, and the Rev. Arthur Henry Faber of Sprotborough, Yorkshire. His personal estate was in the amount of £86,755-6-11.

The Baronetcy became extinct at Joseph's death.
