Maria Bullen was baptised on 20th September 1818 at Great Wymondley in Hertfordshire, daughter of William and Jane Bullen. Just under sixteen years after her baptism, Maria was married to Charles Moles at Great Wymondley. He was an agricultural labourer from the neighbouring village of Willian. Less than two months after their marriage, Maria and Charles's first child was baptised at Great Wymondley.
By the time their second child was born, the family had moved to the nearby market town of Baldock, where they appear to have had another six children between 1836 and 1851, although two died young. The 1851 census finds the family living at Norton End in Baldock. By 1861 they had moved a short distance to Middle Row in the centre of town. Maria was working as a straw plaiter at this time.
Charles died in 1864, aged 50.
Both the 1871 and 1881 censuses find Maria living with her daughter Jane and her family on the northern edge of Baldock, at Norton End in 1871 and Bygrave Lane in 1881.
Maria appears to have moved to the nearby village of Radwell during the 1880s. She died at the age of 69 and was buried at Radwell on 20th January 1888.
