Margaret Sweeney was born in 1884 at Kensington in the western suburbs of London. She was one of twins, with a sister called Kate, and they were the daughters of Margaret Sweeney, formerly Rice, and her husband Stephen Sweeney, a carpenter. Sadly both twins died as babies in the same year in which they had been born.

    b. Margaret SWEENEY, December Quarter 1884, Kensington Registration District, Volume 1a, page 8, mother's maiden name Rice

Stephen Sweeney and Margaret Rice appear to have been the only Sweeney / Rice couple having children in England and Wales at this time, and the births of Kate and Margaret (registered on the same page, implying twins) is in a large gap between Stephen and Margaret's known children, and not far from where Stephen and Margaret were known to live. Moreover, Kate and Margaret were both names from Stephen and Margaret's families. Therefore, whilst the birth certificates would need to be obtained to confirm that Kate and Margaret were indeed Stephen and Margaret's children, it seems reasonably certain that they were.
