Margaret Sweeney was born on 8th November 1887 in Paddington in western suburbs of London. Family tradition says she was known as Daisy. She was the daughter of Margaret Sweeney, formerly Rice, and her husband Stephen Sweeney, a carpenter. Daisy was one of six children, but one of only three who lived to adulthood.
In 1895, when Daisy was just seven years old, her father died. Daisy's grandfather, James Rice, moved down from Scotland to be with the family. The 1901 census finds Daisy living with her mother and grandfather at 19 Amberley Road in Paddington. James Rice later returned to Scotland, where he died in 1907.
By 1910 the family was living at 87 Sutherland Avenue, a large town house which they ran as a boarding house, with Daisy and her sister Mary helping their mother. They were there for at least five years, being there until at least 1915. After the First World Ward Daisy's mother and sister moved to Willesden, then on to Wembley. Daisy appears in Wembley with her mother and sister in 1929.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Daisy was working as a housekeeper for a Catholic priest in south London.
Daisy never married. She died in 1960 in Westminster, aged 73. She was buried at Greenford Park Cemetery.
