MONTJOY NOTES SENT TO WILLIAM DARRELL WARNER JR. by SHERRY S. STANCLIFF There were Montjoys in the early Bourbon County, KY records. The Montjoys showed up in some records of Montgomery County (I was looking for Moores). They are- Travis Montjoy married Nancy C. Wright before 1852 Amanda Montjoy married Thomas A. Choate Oct 4, 1852 Montjoy married Elizabeth Cheatham before 1857 The was William Montjoy who married Elizabeth Cheatham and they evidently moved from Montgomery County to Owingsville, Bath County. On Nov. 28, 1854 an unnamed boy was born Slate, Bath County to William Montjoy and Elizabeth Cheatham. The name Cheatham was familiar because Charles Whittington Jr was living in the 1850 census in the household of William Ragland and his wife Gillian [Cheatham] Ragland. Charles Whittington Jr was the son of Charles SR and Hetty [Warner] Lansdale Whittington, who in 1852 married Susannah Stanclift, In the 1860 Census, Bath County, Owingsville, 1421/1421 two houses distant from Jacob and Elizabeth [Shultz] Warner there was an older couple listed- GARRET MTJOY 75, born VA HANNAH MTJOY 73, born VA These are probably the parents of Jarret Montjoy, first husband of Margaret Montjoy and of some of the other Montjoys in the area. Travis 48 and Nancy [Wright] Montjoy 40 were still in Montgomery County, Mt Sterling P.O. in 1870 and their oldest sons were named Jarret and John. So they probably are related to the Montjoys who moved to Bath County. In Bath County, there was a Hiram H. Stull who married Elizabeth Montjoy and they had a daughter Evaline born Bath County Oct. 20, 1855. The next year on Oct. 15, 1856 they had a son Jarret Stull. In Nagle's book on Newspaper items is the following- " Owingsville Outlook issue of Oct, 26, 1905 under Marriages: At Lexington Thursday Oct. 19, Jarret M. Stull of this place and Mrs. Missouri Montjoy of Lexington. The bride is the widow of John Montjoy, formerly of Bath County. Stoops. " Was John the son of Margaret [Cheat/Cheat] Montjoy Warner? He was born Bath County Feb. 13, 1855 and was the oldest Montjoy child living in the household of Jonas Warner and Margaret [Cheat/Cheat] Montjoy Warner in 1870 census. The article above indicates that he retained the Montjoy name as an adult. The 1850 Census from the printed source looked as if Jacob Warner was in the Household of an Elizabeth Goodloe. The possibility arose that Mary was a daughter of Jacob Warner, but the original record showed that Jacob was the head of a separate household and his grandson, Jacob Lansdale, was living with him. The name showed up again in the 1870 Census with a Mary Goodloe age 18 living next door to Jonas and Margaret [Cheat] Montjoy Warner. She had a 3 year old child named Jarrett Goodloe which might suggest that Mary was a daughter of Margaret and her first husband, Jarret Montjoy. Sherry S.
