Obituaries

Caldwell County Sentinel, Missouri September 24, 1886 Mrs. E. Fort, wife of Deacon Fort, of Mirabile, died last Thursday, of old age and paralysis, aged 80 years. She was interred Saturday in the Mirabile cemetery, and was followed to her final resting place by a large number of friends and relatives. The services were conducted by Rev. Goodale. The Sentinel extends its sympathy to the bereaved ones. Caldwell County Sentinel, Missouri September 24, 1886 Rev. Goodale preached Mrs. Forts' funeral sermon last Saturday to a very large audience. There were present, nine children, twenty-six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren or forty descendants in all. The diseased was married to Mr. Fort, who still survives her, in 1828, and they lived happily for fifty eight years. How she must be missed in that household. The Kingston Times, Kingston, Missouri September 23, 1886 DIED - In Mirabile, Sept. 16th, 1886, of paralysis, Margaret wife of Mr. E. Fort, aged 79 years, 7 months and 20 days. Mrs. Fort was born in Albany county, N.Y. Jan. 26th, 1807, and married Mr. Fort in 1828, lived in West Troy some years. Moved to Coshocton county, Ohio in 1840, where the family remained until 1854, when they removed to Knoxville, Iowa. From there the family came to Caldwell county, where it has remained ever since. The last years of Mrs. Fort's life has been spent in Mirabile. In 1833, Mrs. Fort joined the Dutch Reformed church which is one of the branches of the Presbyterian church, of which she became a member on coming west. She had a partial stroke of paralysis last winter, since which time she has been very feeble. Eight weeks ago she took to her bed and has been slowly but surely dying since then, until the end, which occurred about noon Thursday, the 16th. Her aged companion, eight children, twenty-six grand children and five great grand children survive her. The funeral took place Saturday, Rev. Goodale delivered the sermon, which was very impressive. The minister was suffering from a severe cold which made the services necessarily brief. The remains were interred in the Mirabile cemetery and were followed to the grave by a host of relatives and friends. The husband and children have the sympathies of the community.
