Facts and Events
On 14 July 1791, Margaret Wright widow of William Wright, deceased, and Elizabeth Wright, wife of James Wright, both released their right of dower to land formerly owned by William Wright and which William Wright in his will gave to his two youngest sons, James and Alexander Wright. The release of the right of dower was executed in Bourbon Co, Kentucky. (Augusta Co., VA, Circuit Court Deeds, 1-A:36-37). Margaret Malcolm was the daughter of John Malcolm and Margaret. In John Malcolm's will Margaret is referred to as "Margaret Wright." A grandson, "William Wright" and a wife "Margaret" is mentioned. (p.81, 4 July 1761, Chalkley's Chronicles, Vol. 3 posted on rootsweb.com). The name "Malcolm" is Scottish, or, possibly, Irish for the Gaelic "Maol-Choluim", which means a devotee of St. Columba. St. Columba was an Irishman who settled on Iona, Scotland and established a monastery there. St. Columba was largely responsible for Christianizing Scotland. |
