After Benjamin F. Lamar died in 1913, Margaret M. Lamar moved to Texas to live with her children. Martha E. Lamar, daughter of Benjamin F. and Margaret M. Lamar, had returned to Graham, Texas, to live with her aunt Mary A. Dolman (sister of Benjamin Franklin Lamar) while her son, John J. Gallaher, was serving the U. S. Navy. Her aunt was operating a hotel in Graford, Texas. In speaking of her father, Martha Elizabeth said:

I can't remember anything interesting or exciting about my father. I only remember that we were always poor. He worked hard and farmed all of his life, but he was a poor manager. When I was about eight years old, we moved to Tell City, Indiana. My two older sisters went to work in the Woolen Mills and my mother kept boarders to help make a living. My brother, J. B. Lamar, and I were the only children in the family that attended school in Tell City. However, neither of us ever finished school. I had to quit school while in the eighth grade and go to work in the Woolen Mills. I had reached 16 years of age. It was a struggle to get by in those days. My sister, Henrietta, brother J. B. and I were the only ones that came to Texas to live.

Margeret M. Lamar, had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. D. M. Wellman (Henrietta) in Chilicothe, Texas, about nine years immediately before her death. However, she died at the home of another daughter, Mrs. R. G. Rehders (Martha), in Graham, Texas
