Mrs. Jane Houston, 100 Years Old, Dies
Mrs. Jane Houston, above, who celebrated her 100th birthday last March 22, a resident of Ottumwa for the past 23 years, died at hor home, 818 Dewey street, at 12:20 a.m. today.
Born March 22, 1885 [sic], in Davis county, she was the daughter of Daniel and Matilda Tharp Crumrine. She was married, December 22, 1866 [sic], to James Houston, who preceded her in death April 25, 1896.
Surviving are two sons, Sam Houston and John Houston, both of Ottumwa, and five daughters, Mrs. Laura Donaldson, Belknap; Mrs. Phoebe Pilcher, Bloomfield; Mrs. Viola Logue, Houston, Tex.; Mrs. Bertha Schwartz, Los Angeles Calif., and Mrs. Delpha Doud, Marshalltown. Twenty grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grand-children also survive.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Ella Thomas, and two sons who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson funeral chapel in charge of the Rev. Leo Simmons, pastor of the Open Bible church of Bloomfield. Burial will be made in Shawl cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Harold Donaldson. Richard Donaldson, Carl Pilcher, Paul Thomas, Wesley Pierce and George Smith.
