    Margaret “Peg” Sayre, 101, died at the Milton Senior Center on July 12, 2013. Peg was born on March 28, 1912, the 3rd child of Linn Henry Brown and Maggie May (Hakes) Brown. She grew up in Rodger’s Park in Chicago, IL. Peg graduated from Senn High School in Chicago and graduated from Milton College in 1934. She was active in athletics and Shakespeare plays during college. Peg was married to Walter R. Sayre in her home in Chicago on September 8, 1934. They returned to Milton to live where Walter owned the Blackhawk Garage (later named Sayre Motor’s/Chrysler/Plymouth). They also raised mink as a business venture. Walt and Peg also owned the Sayre Bus Company in Milton (1950). Peg was a bookkeeper for the family businesses. She was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church. Peg was active in the Milton community as the President of the WVI Club in 1949 (Women’s Village Improvement Club). She was always interested in the activities and politics in the Milton Community. Walt and Peg were avid golfers playing at the Janesville Country Club. Peg continued to play golf until she was 93 at the Oak Ridge Golf Course in Milton, shooting in the 60’s. Walt and Peg wintered in Texas where she had a hole-in-one at age 77. After retirement, Peg became a quilter and volunteered at the Gathering Place in Milton, helping with quilting projects until age 98. She and Walt traveled extensively for 16 years in their private plane with 9 other airplane enthusiasts to various destinations in Mexico and Central America as well as across the United States.
    Peg was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1995. She was the loving mother of Laura Sayre Hamann (Howard), of Hummelstown, PA; and John Sayre (Maureen) of Tomahawk, WI. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: James Hamann of East Greenwich, RI; Lynne Hamann of Hummelstown, PA; Bill (Linda) Sayre of Spring, TX; Tom Sayre of Milton, WI; Marne (Don) Renn of Tomahawk, WI; Jean (Michael) Scionti of Tampa, FL. Peg is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Margaret, Caroline, Robert, Andrew Hamann of Rhode Island; Reann and Lauren Walquist of Pennsylvania; Taylor and Madisen Sayre of Texas; Collin and Hannah Sayre of Wisconsin; Steven, Maggee and Kyle Renn of Wisconsin, Lilianna and Michael Scionti of Florida.
    Memorial services will be held at 3 PM on Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church with Rev. Herb Saunders officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 1 PM until 3 PM. Memorials may be given in Peg’s name to The Gathering Place, Milton.
