    Milton - Walter R. Sayre, age 86, died at home on Sat., Dec. 23, 1995, after a long illness. He was born April 8, 1909, in Dodge Center, MN, the second son of Rev. Charles S. Sayre and Mabel (Clark) Sayre. He spent his childhood in Albion, WI, graduating as an outstanding athlete from Child High School in Edgerton in 1927. He then graduated with a B.S. degree from Milton College in 1932. In 1933 he purchased the Blackhawk Garage, later renaming it Sayre Motors. He had a Chrysler-Plymouth car dealership for 42 years, as well as an automotive service's facility in 1979. In 1950 he started the Sayre Bus Co., Inc. and provided the busses serving the Milton School District for 43 years. He served as a councilman for the Village of Milton in the 1940's through the 1960's, serving as the president in 1966. He was instrumental in the merging of the Village with the Town of Milton Jct. into the City of Milton. He was a Director Emeritus of the Bank of Milton, a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Milton, serving one term as its president. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and aviation enthusiast. He was a licensed aircraft pilot, with both commercial and instrumental rating. He married Margaret (Peg) Sayre at her parent's home in Chicago in 1934. They traveled extensively in his own plane, in Mexico and the United States, as well as in Central America and the Northwest Territories.
    He is survived by his wife, Peg of Milton; a daughter, Laura (Howard) Hamann of Hummelstown, PA; a son, John (Maureen) Sayre of Tampa, FL; 6 grandchildren: James (Elsie) Hamann of East Greenwich, RI, Lynn (Chad) Walquist of San Diego, CA, William (Linda) Sayre of Louisville, KY, Thomas (Marie) Sayre, and Marne Sayre, both of Milton, Jean Sayre of Tampa, FL; 2 great-grandchildren, Collin Walter Sayre and Taylor Ann Sayre.
    Memorial services will be held at a later date, with burial in the Milton Cemetery. Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton handled the arrangements for the family. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice, or to the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Milton.
