The sudden death of Marcus Fleet Magee occurred at his home three miles North of Franklinton Tuesday morning, February 17, 1942. Mr. Magee was not in good health, but was able to do light duties about his farm. When the noon hour arrived and he did not come in to dinner, a search was made by his son, Jake Magee, who found his father dead at the barn. Help was summoned and Mr. Magee was carried to the house, but death, cause by heart failure, had occurred. Deceased was 79 years, eight months and ten days of age when his death occurred. His wife Mrs. Martinea Graves Magee, preceded him in death by only a few months. Mr. Magee was a prominent citizen, a progressive farmer and was president of the old Citizens Bank for a number of years before its liquidation. He was a safe councilor and gave much thought to all problems that came to his attention. He was generous, kind and considerate and was ever ready to give a helping hand to those less fortunate than himself. His many friends will miss the passing of this good man, and his family will sadly grieve for the loving care he has always surrounded them with. Mr. Magee was one of the oldest members of the Franklinton Masonic Lodge, having been a member for 53 years. He is survived by three sons, Bob Magee of Miami, Florida; June Magee of Route Two, and Jake Magee who lived with his father; two daughters, Miss Sadie Magee, a teacher of the Villa Platte high school and Miss Ethel Magee in the home, and one brother, A. G. Magee, Sr. Funeral services were conducted from the home at four o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Ira W. Flowers and assisted by Rev. G. A. Nelson. Masonic services were conducted at the grave and interment was made in the Ellis cemetery.
