Mother most probably Mary Browne-Mason, the sister of Marchant senior's older sister Jessie's husband. 1881 census - one Marchant Penfold found: he was 7 years old, born Exeter, and residing as a scholar at 16-17 Norfolk Road, Hadleigh House, Littlehampton, Sussex, England. This was a school and the head of the school was governess Emma Tyrrell, unmarriedaged 46. Neighbouring residences housed various well-off upper middle class people.

Married. 1930s - resident of Hove, Sussex, England. Important in Philatelic society, London. Won Royal Philatelic Society London's prestigious Tapling Medal in 1934 for an article he published relating to the stamps of Norway.
