Mamie Quattlebaum Webb, age 89, of Brunswick, died June 18, 2004 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. A native of Greenwood, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Stephen Olin and Allie Mae Duncan Quattlebaum. She was one of nine children and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Marion Webb of Elberton, Ga. During her years in Elberton, Mamie worked for the Elbert County Hospital, the Weatherly Furniture Company and later opened Webb's Style Shop. She moved to St. Simons Island in 1982 and spent many years babysitting and keeping newborns in her home. Mamie decided to move to St. Marks Towers, and the "Towers" have never been the same. Her love of cards and bridge occupied her time completely. She was also instrumental in starting several fundraisers for the "Towers" Recreational Fund. Her dogged determination to succeed made all her accomplishments successful. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra J. Webb, Las Vegas, Nv. and Miriam L. Webb, St. Simons Island; brothers, Thomas Quattlebaum, Lake Placid, Fl., Jim Quattlebaum, Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Howard Quattlebaum, Pensacola, Fl; a sister-in-law, Gaynelle (Mrs. Pete) Quattlebaum, Greenville, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m.. Monday at St. Marks Towers with Rev. Darrell Joiner officiating. The family will receive friends at St. Marks Towers immediately following the service and at other times at 136 Shore Rush Drive, St. Simons Island. Another memorial service will be 11a.m Thursday at Hicks Funeral Home, Elberton, Ga. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Webb, 1726 Pine Needles Lane, Elberton, immediately following the service there. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Ga 31525. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.” |
