OBIT: Mamie J "Sally" Wasley 83yrs old died at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hosp. where she had been since Oct 9th. native to Ala. Spent most childhood in Tex, Moved to California 1936. Survivors daughter Billie Andrews of Grass Valley and Lola May Fields of Nevada City son Arnold Smith of Santa Rosa: a step-daughter Nadine Robinson of Davis. Sister Floy Leach of Sacramento, Carrie Luedtke of Vernon,TX Ruby Corney of Houston, brothers Carl and Theodore Henderson both of Houston. 8 grand kids, 21 great grand kids. Services at Hooper and Weaver Chapel , Rev Robert L Roy. Burial Elm Ridge Lawn Cemetery.

Arnold wrote- Mamie and Wm Smith were married Abt 1907. He was 32yrs old and she was 16. Married in Rice, TX. They only had 4 children. She left father they were married Abt 10 yrs, and then we moved to San Angelo, TX to a TB sanitarium(I was Abt 4). Aunt Floy was in the hospital also. AF Perry was hanging around in a covered wagon 1918. Floy was married to him but she was not living with him, He was nice looking, used makeup. I guess he thought well of himself. Anyway Jewel and grandpa thought he was the cause of my mother and fathers break up. She married Aunt Floys x husband. I think that was Abt 1922-23, we moved back to Corsicana, TX. Frank was not around long. (SD found Lola living with Mamie and Frank in Corsicana 1928 city dir) When Mamie was married to him. She caught him in bed with another woman. We moved to Wink TX. we did everything to get by. We lived there 8 or 9 years. Willie went to High School and I went to grade school. Lola married Holman Fields in Wink, TX.

Mamie married Elmer Lee Stallings in Wink TX. He was a bootlegger and miner. He left and moved to Carlsbad NM to work in Potash mines seems the law was after him. Mother followed, she said that EL Stallings was her real love. (note: he was physically mean to her.) When mother took off for Carlsbad she left Arnold. He lived with Lola and Holman. The depression was still on. Bread lines and soup kitchens. All her children finally wound up in Carlsbad. I attended HS in Carlsbad, needed 1/2 credit from Spanish class to graduate. Some time later EL Stallings (1933-34?) left Carlsbad to Nevada City, Grass Valley area. My mother followed. They wrote letters is how she found him. He did not want her around any longer. EL Stallings left again to parts unknown. My mother stayed around Grass Valley and in 1938 she married Joe Wasley ( a hard rock miner) in Reno. He died in 1959 and she in 1974.
