Sioux Center news of Nov 29, 1994 Magdalene Van Berkum February 25, 1910—November 24, 1994 Magdalene "Mag" Van Berkum, 84, of Rock Valley died Thursday, November 24, at Valley Manor In Rock Valley. Services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 26, at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery.

The former Magdalene Vande Berg was born February 25, 1910, in Hospers, the daughter of Ralph and Cassle (Ganzevoort) Vande Berg. She married James Van Berkum, Sr. on July 9, 1929, In Hull. The couple lived at Sioux Center and in southern Minnesota before moving to Rock Valley in 1933. She worked as a cook at various Rock Valley restaurants and later at Valley Manor Nursing Home and the Rock Valley Golf Club. He died November 4, 1987. and she moved to Valley Manor June 16, 1993. She was a member of Hope Haven's Foster Grandparent Program.

Survivors Include four sons. James R. of Rock Valley, Leslie and Arlyn, both of Le Mars, and John of North Muskegon, Michigan; a daughter, Mrs. Duane (Elenore) Lawrence of Spencer; two brothers, Harold Vande Berg of Sibley and Kenneth Vande Berg of Tempe, Arizona; four sisters, Angeline Zwagerman of Orange City, Harriet Van Zandbergen of Kearney, Nebraska, Helen Munson of Storm Lake and Vonnie Van Surksum of Hospers; 18 grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren.
