Mabel Constance Timothy was born on 28th February 1874 at 3 Camden Villas in Lewisham in Kent, in the south-eastern suburbs of London. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Timothy, formerly Hutchings, and her husband Peter Vincent Timothy, a surgeon and physician. Mabel was the ninth of the couple's ten children. They did not stay long in Lewisham after Mabel's birth; her younger sister was born in 1875 at Hastings on the Sussex coast.
Mabel's parents appear to have separated around the late 1870s or early 1880s. The 1881 census finds Mabel living with her mother and siblings at Southport on the Lancashire coast, whilst her father was living with another woman (with whom he would have a son later that year) in Manchester.
In 1891 Mabel was visiting her older brother Eustace, who had moved to Wivenhoe in Essex. After 1891, no trace of Mabel has been found for the next twenty years. In this time, her mother died in the Bury area north of Manchester in 1904.
Mabel's next sighting is in the 1911 census, when she was living as companion to an older lady in a relatively large house in Hampstead in London.
Mabel's father died in Norfolk in 1919.
At the outbreak of the Second World War, Mabel was living at a house called The Vatch, in the village of Hadley Down in Sussex. She was described as being of private means.
Mabel lived to be 96 years old. She died on 5th August 1970 at Hove in Sussex.
