Eaglehawk Cemetery, Eaglehawk, , Victoria, AustraliaE-Mail: [email protected] URL: http://www.bencemtrust.com.au/Eaglehawk_Cemetery.htm Eaglehawk Cemetery 5 Victoria Street, 5 Victoria Street, Eaglehawk,, Victoria 3556 Australia (Grenfell Street, Reserve and Victoria Streets, adjacent to Neangar Memorial Park, Eaglehawk) The Government gazette dated 9th December 1863 stated "A site for a cemetery at Eaglehawk has been reserved by Order of the Government on 28th September 1863". The area reserved was 5 acres fronting Reserve Street. The Eaglehawk Old Monumental Section is laid out in orderly rectangular plats. It has all denominations and a Paupers section. There are many magnificent trees lining the roadways such as Bunya Pines, Morton Bay Figs, Oak, Hoop Pine, Canary Island Pine and Silky Oak. The first recorded burial at the Eaglehawk Cemetery is that of 21 year old John Edmond McDonough. He was interred in Grave 1 Section C on 6th July 1864. Today there is still a monument standing that was erected in his memory. There have been 6 Sextons live in the Sextons Residence formerly located near the front gates of the old monumental section. The cottage was built in the 1870's and was demolished in the 1970's. |

- ↑ The funeral of Mrs. Mabel Dewar wife of Mr. R.A.Dewar of California Gully took place yesterday afternoon to the Eaglehawk cemetery. A house service was conducted by the Rev. WKeliy. The coffin was carried to the grave by Messrs. WKidd, H. Thomas, S. Phillips and T:Bone. Many beautiful floral tokens were received. The Funeral arrangements were in the hands of Mr. E. C. Brown.
