Mabel A. McElhaney, 81, died Monday morning in the North Valley Nursing Home in Stevensville, where she had resided since November.
In 1920 she moved to Helena, where she married Robert C. McElhaney May 14, 1921. The couple farmed in the Helena Valley until 1952, when they moved to Stevensville and engaged in farming. Mr. McElhaney retired in 1965. The couple sold their ranch and moved to Victor, where they resided until Mr. McElhaneys death in June 1974. Mrs. EcElhaney then moved to Helena to make her home with a daughter. In 1978 she returned to Stevensville. Survivors include four daughters, Rosella Hegre, Wilsall; Evelyn Meredith, Canby, Ore; Lois Poepping, Helena; and Mary Lou Treece, Corvallis; two sons, Robert C., Stevensville; and James A., Los Angeles; three brothers, Lewis, Carl and Henry Bowman, all of Grand Forks; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. - Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville, with the Rev. Monroe Wilcox officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.
