"WILSON, Lydia 19 May 1837 Age 76y; wife of Ebenezer Wilson"
- ↑ Ken Stevens book suggests she was the daughter of Thomas Rowley and Lois Cass based on strong circumstantial evidence.
Support for this conclusion:
1) Noah Wilson, a younger half-brother of Ebenezer Wilson, married Lydia's younger sister Mary.
2) The births of Mary and Lydia do not appear in the Connecticut VRs. However the DAR and the Mayflower Society seem to agree that Mary was a daughter of Thomas and Lois (Cass) Rowley. Based on her estimated age at death, Lydia would be older than Mary. However as there is no definite birth nor death date for Mary, it is possible that Mary was older than Lydia.
3) The Wilson and Rowley extended families lived near each other in the Addison/Rutland Counties of Vermont during and after the American Revolution and were obviously well-acquainted. Lydia's brother Nathan Rowley served under Capt. Ebenezer Wilson in the Vermont Militia in 1781, along with Ebenezer's father Michael and his half-brother Noah. Ebenezer Wilson and Thomas Rowley Sr. and his sons Thomas Jr., Reuben and Nathan appear in the list of freemen of Danby in 1778. In 1779 and 1780 Thomas Rowley Sr. was Moderator and Ebenezer Wilson was Constable. In 1783 Ebenezer Wilson was Moderator. It was during this time that Ebenezer Wilson married Lydia Rowley.
4) Based on the births of their oldest children, it appears that Lydia married before Mary, however no records of their marriages have been found.
5) Lydia Wilson and her sister-in-law Eunice Rowley witnessed the will of Joseph Brundage at Bethany NY in 1822.
