Facts and Events
Aunt Grace (my mother's aunt) Williams was a power in the family. She was widowed early in life, but her late husband was a railroader, and family tradition says he died in a work accident. She was well-fixed, in the language of the day, and it seemed she was smart enough to make the money last. She was the owner of the Royal Blue grocery store that I remember in Hammond. It was the workplace and the sometimes home for my uncle Leo and aunt Ruth. Uncle Leo was the butcher, but I get the impression that it was run the way that Grace wanted it run. I think, too, that Grace's sponsorship was a help to Leo in living independently from his father, Grover. References
