- Captain Luke B. Smith trained students at Prince Edward Academy, Virginia. For many weeks he was head of his company at Petersburg and Williamsburg, Virginia, during the American Revolution.
- In 1758 Luke Smith and wife, "Judah", of North Carolina sold several tracts of land in Halifax Co., Virginia, to Jacob Ferris, John East, James Ferris, and Joseph Farris.
- On August 1, 1760, Luke Smith obtained a Lord Granville Grant to which he signed his own name--222 acres on the fork of Brush Creek, which would be in present Chatham or Randolph Counties.
