- ↑ "Died-- at the home of Charles Johnson, in Clare, Michigan, October 8,1898, Mrs. Lucy A. Smith, aged 44 years, one month and eight days. LucyA. Ritter was born in Steuben Township, Steuben County, Indiana, August31, 1854. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theobald Ritter, whosettled in Steuben County in 1852. Her mother died when she was butfour years old. She then lived with her father until her marriage toAlbert Smith, March 24, 1872. For six years Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived ona farm adjoining her father's farm. They then it removed to Clare,Michigan, where they have since resided. She had many relatives andfriends in Steuben County, and a host of friends in Clare. She has beensuffering severely for a year and did not fear death. The funeral tookplace at the home of Charles Johnson, Monday, October 10th, 1898. Shewas laid to rest in the Clare Cemetery. Mrs. Emma fast, of AshlandCounty, Ohio, was with her the last week which was a great comfort toher."Note: Emma was Lucy's first cousin, once removed
