Mrs. Lucy Pope Maxey died in Paris, Texas. She was the wife of General Rice Maxey and mother of General S.B. Maxey, late of the Confederate Army. When about 24 years of age she was baptized by the Elder Wm. Warden. United with the Baptist church at Glasgow, Kentucky. Settled in Tompkinsville, Kentucky where she united with Mill Creek Church. About 14 years after her husband united with the church. About the same time he was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court in Clinton Co., Ky. They located in the latter place and united with the Clear Fork Church, which they left in 1841 on account of its anti mission principle. They then went into the organization of a new church in Albany Kentucky which became large and flourishing. This she left in 1857, settled in Texas and united with the Paris Baptist Church.
Her father was Capt. Samuel Bell of Virgina. Her mother was Lucy Pope, daughter of Nathaniel Pope of Virginia.
