Lucretia (Slocum) Copeland was born on August 27, 1849, in Harrison, West Virginia, her father, George Slocum, was 31, and her mother, Mary Magdaline Critzer Slocum, was 32. She was the fifth child born of their eight children. She married Burrell Francis Copeland in 1870 in Fort Worth, Texas . They had nine children in 21 years. She died on March 21, 1922, in Duncan, Oklahoma, at the age of 72, and was buried there. She was known by her friends as "Aunt Cretia". She died of pneumonia. She was a devoted Christian, joined the Methodist Church as a young girl. Her and Burrel were pioneers in both Texas and Indian Territory. They alternated living between the two locations traveling by covered wagon. They lived in Pauls Valley Oklahoma area, near White Bead, for a few years before moving to Duncan Oklahoma where they lived for over forty years.
