Obituary

CANTON -- Loreta M. Whyte Kahly, 92, of Canton, formerly of Lena, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.

She was born May 16, 1911, in Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Nellie (Miles) Powell. On Nov. 14, 1932, Loreta and Roland I. Whyte were married in Pierson, Iowa. He passed away Sept. 24, 1983. She owned and operated a beauty shop in Apple River and Warren, and was a member of the Freeport Rebekahs and Odd Fellows for many years.

Surviving are one son, Duane (Marilyn) Whyte of Oklee, Minn.; one daughter, Phylis (Raymond) Studer of Glasford; one sister, Charlotte (Frank) Woodward of Moravia, Iowa; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and stepgrandchildren.

On June 15, 1997, Loreta married Lowell Kahly in Michigan.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Roland; one daughter, Lyla; and a grandson, Miles.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Leamon Funeral Home in Lena with the Rev. Scott McClellan officiating. Burial will be at Lena Burial Park.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday to time of service at the funeral home, 210 W. Main St., Lena.

A memorial fund has been established for Sunset Manor Nursing Home, 129 S. First St., Canton IL 61520, for the patio project.
