Stories about Ruth are almost family legends... ...She always enjoyed a party, loved a good game of poker and always had a somewhat wry sense of humour. Shortly before her brother Ernie died in 1970, she told him he owed her a whack of money and presented him with a bill... ....It seems when Ernie had left home in about 1930, he had promised to send Ruth a nickel a week. 40 years later, she thought she'd better collect and figured out how much he owed...and compounded it annually!.. Ernie had the last laugh though ...he died suddenly shortly after that....and without paying her off....

I remember Aunt Ruth telling me this story.... Her son Brian would pack up and go away for a weekend with the boys as a teenager. When he wasn't looking, Ruth would sneak in and stick a rubber duckie (suitable for embarrassing him!) in his suitcase. Brian got smart and took his stuff over to a buddies till he was ready to go. Ruth got smarter and talked to the buddy's mother. Rubber duckies kept going on those trips..... There were a few classic Aunt Ruth lines.... Nice of you to drop in(her comment to her son as he crashed through the ceiling and landed on the floor beside her .The boys were putting a new roof on even if they hadn't planned to.....). It's ok, the dog didn't want it( said as a grandchild raided the dog's dish for food.)

At her wake, her daughter looked around the room and said...y'know, it's too bad Mom couldn't be here. ...She always did like a good party....!
