Facts and Events
Lilian ANDERSON Reed was my great-grandmother. We always called her Nana. She lived at 2430 N Lake Dr. in Milwaukee for a long time. Some of my first memories of her were in that house. They had a three bedroom townhouse there. It is now used as a dorm room for nursing students at the hospital across the street. She and her husband owned a summer home on the Milwaukee river north of Newburg Wisconsin. We used to visit "The River" quite often. There was a small barn that they used as a horse barn in my mother's day. There was an extensive garden plot as you started up the drive way. There were always flowers, vegetables, apples, plums, grapes, you name it. An older gentleman, Merlin, used to come by every week to take care of the garden. He started as a young boy, and even up till the time the property was sold, he would come out every week to tend the garden. Nana battled catarct surgery, a hip replacement and general failing health for quite some time before her death. The last time we saw her, a few months before her death, she couldn't see or hear anything. She died within two weeks of her 105 th birthday. She was buried in the Reed family plot in the Forest Home Cemetery, in Milwaukee Wisconsin. !death...Milwaukee Sentinel, obituary, 24 Jan 1992... !birth...William Gilbert Williams (RIN #149)... To date only 8 have been used because of cremations; for instance, Paul Tappen and George A. are in one grave, Carol and George Anderson are in one grave. All graves used have headstones except one. Lillian A. Reed does not have one. There is a list of heirs on file with the cemetery for use of the remaining graves. (Source: Forest Home Cemetery Records, gathered by Bob Gartz) References
