Scott side: William Moores is believed to have embodied the move of our Morris line from New Jersey to the south, and he's said to have died in New Dellrose which is on highway 411 west of Fayetteville. George Lawan Leonard went to Lincoln County about the same time as our Scotts, coming from South Carolina. He was there until the 1840s, and Eliza Leonard wed William T Scott in Lincoln and had all but one of her children there. Thomas Newcomb senior, great grandfather of Myrtle Meredith, was married in 1807 in Davidson County. He went to Kentucky from there, and his wife died in childbirth in 1809. Levin Benson senior, great grandfather of John J Morris, died in Lincoln [County Tennessee] in 1836. He came there by 1820.

    (2) Scott side: Isaac Morris moved on to Salisbury in Rowan County by 1790, and his son James in our line is believed to have been born there in 1816. Multiple generations, from William who began the line's trek to child James, were in Tennessee by 1820. Salisbury is the county seat and could be a good source of general western North Carolina records. A Levin Benson was in Salisbury in 1790, and his son of the same name in our line is believed to have been born there in 1794. Levin got married there in 1785. This name may not have been rare, because we know that our Levin senior in Tennessee fought in the Revolutionary War from Delaware, and a Levin Benson was in Delaware in 1810. A move from Delaware to North Carolina is significant enough for the age, but I doubt that our Levin went back and forth. A visit to Rowan might help to clear this up. The area that Levin lived in became Davidson County. Salisbury hosts the county's genealogical society.

Scott side: Levin Benson senior is believed to have been in Guilford before 1784, but after the battle there. Winney Todd was born the same year her father Joshua died, 1812 in Wake. Joshua was in Bertie County in 1790 and Wake in 1800. His father Moses was in Bertie in 1787 and his address was Freemans District. Moses is claimed to have been born in Bertie in 1743 and he died in Hillsboro of Wake in 1816. His father William came to Bertie by way of Virginia after immigrating to Pennsylvania from Armagh Ireland. I have a document of how William related to Mary Todd Lincoln. He died in Bertie in 1769. See the Wake section in (9) below.
