BIRTH: MARRIAGE: DEATH: HISTORY: Levi and Margaret moved to Ontario, Canada from New Jersey and eventually settled in Yarmouth twp., Elgin Co., Ontario. Levi compiled a Willson Lineal Family Register on the 7th of Sep. 1855, at 68 years of age and 3 years before his death. Following are excerpts of Levi Willson's Lineal Register. "Yarmouth, 7th of the 7th month 1855 - Levi Willson's Lineal Family Register

                       from the Year 1681. 
                    WILLSON FAMILY REGISTER: 

English Willson Lineal Family Register. Carefully collected by Levi Willson from Family Records of his Ancestors for the use of his son Mordecai Willson. Notice to Succeeding Generations: Given by the aforesaid Levi Willson that in case this book of Lineal Records should by accident be destroyed or the Records injured so as to render themselves useless, there may be a chance to renew them by applying to Joseph Willson or his successors or James Willson or his successors. The said Joseph and James being also the sons of Levi Willson and each of them having a book containing the same Lineal Family Register. Letter of Information: Where as I was credibly informed when I was young that our name Willson derived its source from the name of Will and having conversed with different persons on that subject, who appeared to be men of good information and candid in sentiment who also said the same, I was satisfied that my first impression was correct. And on examining the Family Records of my ancestors as far back as I have been able to collect them, I find that they have invariably spelled the name with two LLs, thus (Willson) as will be found in my Lineal Family Records.

And as double LL is the plural of Will, there is no other right way for us to spell our name, as it appears that we are the sons of -- descendants of Will. Therefore, I thought proper to leave this information in my Lineal Family Register for the guidance of our succeeding generations in the spelling of the name. 

Township of Yarmouth, County of Elgin, Dominion of Canada, 12th day of the 7th month, 1855. Levi Willson. Lineal Family Register Where as I, Levi Willson, now of the Twp. of Yarmouth, in the County of Elgin and the province of Ontario, have carefully collected the names, births and deaths thereof from former Family Records of my ancestors, as far back as that of my Gread Grandfather Samuel Willson, of Yorkshire in Scarborough in Old England; and thinking it not likely that I should obtain any Records further back, I shall commence a Lineal Register with that thereby showing also the names and residences of my Great Great Grandparents, Robert and Ann Willson."

    This is all the information that I [Mary Francis] have on the Lineal Family Register as written by Levi Willson.  It seemed very important to Levi that this information be preserved and passed on, for this reason I am including it in my records.
