In 1888, Leon Ferst was a clerk for M. Ferst and Company, wholesale grocers, in Savannah, Georgia. He resided at 108 Liberty Street. On February 5, 1894, M. Ferst's Sons Company, a wholesale grocery business was destroyed by a fire. Losses to the company were estimated at $150,000. Nearly all the businesses occupying an entire block of five story buildings on Bay Street, Savannah, were destroyed. In 1920, Leon Ferst, his wife, Bessie Meinhard Ferst, and his three children lived in Savannah, Georgia. Leon was a cotton factor. References
