Lena I. Howell (1921 - 2013)

Lena Irene Howell, 91, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at The Village Nursing Center in Florissant, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, at Iles Funeral Homes, Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Thursday. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn, Iowa.

Lena was born on May 4, 1921, in Missoula, Montana, one of twelve children to William and Effie Mae Fisher. In her teen years, she lived with the Rhodes family and Lena loved them and thought of them as Mom & Pop. She loved plants and flowers and had quite the green thumb. Lena loved babies and would often work in the church nursery. She also loved working on crafts and would help during bible school doing craft classes with the church children.

Lena loved her husband and son and was very proud of them. She kept a picture of her son, Lyn in his Navy uniform on her dresser. Lena also loved strong coffee and lemon sherbet.

She was the last of her original family to be taken home leaving only her son, Lyn Howell of Florissant, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
