The Last Will & Testament of Leah Leith

In the name of God Amen, I Leah Leeth widow of the parish of Beckfort, in the County of Shenandoah and State of Virginia being weak in body but of sound mind and memory calling to mind the uncertainty of life and that is appointed for all to die to make and ordain this and no other my last will and testament in manner and form following Viz: First and principally I remment my soul to God that gave it and to my body I desire that buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executor and as touching such worldly estate where with it had pleased God to bless me with I dispose thereof in manner following I desire that all my debts and funeral charges to first paid and satisfied.

Item. I give and devise unto my son William Tyler all my right title claim of the plantation whereon I now live which land was willed to me by my father Robert McKay and all other land which should fall unto me in a settlement of the grant suit now pending. I likewise give to my said son, William Tyler my big bible.

Item. I give and devise unto my granddaughter Margaret Whitson one brown mare which she has in her possession & one feather bed and furniture known by my bed and likewise all my pewter and......? dresser and one Dutch oven and two small pots.

Item. I give and devise to my grandson Joseph Whitson one dark bay mare and one bed, which bed is to be in the care of his Uncle William Tyler until he comes of age. I likewise give to my grandson James Whitson one bay mare colt and one brown cow and the residue of my estate not bequeathed to be equally divided by my two grandson, viz: Joseph & James Whitson. It is likewise my desire that my daughter Leah shall have my wearing apparel. And Lastly I do hereby appoint my said son William Tyler executor of this will, hereby annulling and making void all former and other Wills by me heretofore made. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 9th day of October one thousand seven hundred and ninety four. At a court held for the County of Shenandoah on Tuesday the 12 September 1797. This last will and testament of Leah Leeth was exhibited to the Court and provided by the oaths of Jeremiah McKay, James Johnston and Samuel Odell testified there to and ordered to be recorded and on motion of William Tyler who made oath & gave bond with security of probate in due form is granted according to law.
