• Tipton, Jonathan, born 1750 in Frederick County, Virginia; entered service as Major, Washington County, North Carolina (area later Tennessee), where he resided, in North Carolina regiment, moved abt. 17 years after Revolutionary War to Buncombe County, North Carolina, for abt. 27 years, then to Overton County, Tennessee, where granted Pension in 1832; died 1/18/1833 in Cumberland County, Kentucky; married (2) 1810, 1811 or 5/6/1813 to Lavina Stephens, Buncombe County, North Carolina, who was granted Pension abt. age 67 in White County, Tennessee in 1853; Esau Tipton (no kinship given) made affidavit there then age 54; soldier's widow granted Bounty Land Warrant #36523 there in 1855; moved in 1860 to Reynolds County, Missouri, to live with son William Stephens who then was abt. age 60; John Stephens (no kinship given) made affidavit there in 1861 at age 26; soldier had son John & son Samuel by 1st marriage, who resided 1834 in Irvine, Estill County, Kentucky, & another son mentioned but not named who resided 1832 in Buncombe County, North Carolina.
