It appears that Lafayette was named for his father's long-time partner and friend. A quote from his father's bio: From the Progressive Men book, "A.H. Jackson was a prosperous resident of Bingham County, Idaho. In April 1864, his pioneering spirit led him to cross the continent and make his home in the West. Locating at Granger Station, in the present state of Wyoming. In May 1864 he at once entered the service of the Western Union Telegraph Co. for one year then conducted merchandising in association with Lafaytte Granger at a trading post in Porter until 1870.
