1950 - Newspaper Clipping: Man is Killed, 11 Other Hurt in Area Mishaps. Town of Porter Resident Fatally Injured When Pinned Beneath Tractor. A Town of Porter man is dead and 11 others persons are being treated for injuries which they received in a series of traffic mishaps in this area during the weekend. The dead man was LaVerne F. Calkins, 65, of Calkins road, who was killed early yesterday when a tractor, which he was operating in the Youngstown-Wilson road, left the road and over-turned, pinning Calkins underneath the machine. Cpl. John D. Fennell, of the state police at the Lewiston substation, said that the man's chest was crushed by the steering column….
