Note: Knud Kirkeberg was the spoiled child of a wealthy family that owneda large farm. Sociable and well-liked, he grew up wild but, through afamily friend, became converted to Lutheranism. At a confirmation service,31-year-old Knud met 15-year-old Marie Kulterstad, whom he described "oneof the most beautiful girls I had ever seen." They married about two yearslater and bought a farm in Gulbrandsdalen, where Ragnhild was born. Withthe death of Knud's oldest brother, Ole, Knud and Marie bought the familyproperty in So. Aurdal and made their home there. Knud and Marie had 11children.
