  7. "Kenneth John Tibado, 75, of Winter Haven, died of heart failure onFriday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Winter Haven Hospital.
    A native of Tampa, he had been a resident of the area for 72 years. Hewas a retired self-employed kite manufacturer. He was a member of HolySpirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales. He was a member of the Water SkiAssociation and was in the Skiers Hall of Fame. He developed the waterski kite at Cypress Gardens, where he was a skier kite flyer and Corkythe Clown for many years.
    He is survived by his wife, Sandra S. Tibado of Winter Haven; daughters,Gala Tibado of Titusville, Betty Shacrew of Cocoa, Paula Melvin ofWinter Haven and Lisa Tibado of Lake Wales; sons, Keith Tibado ofFrostproof, Ken Tibado of Kissimmee, Kyle Tibado of San Francisco andBill Tibado of Lakeland; brothers, Clarence Tibado of Winter Haven andHoward Tibado of Lake Wales; sisters, Lorraine Duncan, Mary Underhilland Joan Tibado, all of Winter Haven; 17 grandchildren; and fourgreat-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Marion NelsonFuneral Home in Lake Wales. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. atthe funeral home."

    WINTER HAVEN -- Mr. Kenneth John Tibado entertained countless peoplewith his skier kite flying performances at Cypress Gardens.

    "Dick Pope wrote a book, and in the book he said he had never seen amore fantastic athelete in all of his life," said his wife of 32 years,Sandra S. Tibado.

    "He worked for him, and he sent him to different shows all over theworld. He won first place at the very first kite tournament in the worldin Fiji, France.

    "He won many contests in his career, and he had lots of trophies. Hetaught Banana George how to ski and fly the kite."

    The retired self-employed kite manufacturer died of heart failure Friday(Sept. 10, 2004) at Winter Haven Hospital. He was 75.

    Born in Tampa on Aug. 2, 1929, he came to Winter Haven 72 years ago.Skiing was a passion that Mr. Tibado developed early in life. He beganperforming at Cypress Gardens in the 1940s.

    He began manufacturing kites in the late 1950s that he sold worldwide.He incorporated his kites into his act, even before harnesses were usedwith kite skiing.

    He later developed a harness to fly with. His ski acts includedperforming as Corky the Clown and posing as a gorilla skier.

    "He did the barefoot beach takeoff, deepwater takeoff, barefoot skiing,he even helped build a lot of the stuff out at Cypress Gardens when theywere just developing it," Sandra Tibado said.

    Mr. Tibado was featured in magazines such as the Science Magazine andSports Illustrated. He also appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, the GaryMoore Show, What's My Line, the Tommy Bartlett Show and ABC's Wide Worldof Sports. His kite is on display at the Skiers Hall of Fame, and he waspreparing to be inducted this year.

    He was a member of the Water Ski Association. He was a member of HolySpirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales.

    In addition to his wife, Mr. Tibado is survived by his daughters, GalaTibado, Titusville, Betty Shacrew, Cocoa, Paula Melvin, Winter Haven,Lisa Tibado, Lake Wales; sons, Keith Tibado, Frostproof, Ken Tibado,Kissimmee, Kyle Tibado, San Francisco, Bill Tibado, Lakeland; brothers,Clarence Tibado, Winter Haven, Howard Tibado, Lake Wales; sisters,Lorraine Duncan, Winter Haven, Mary Underhill, and Joan Tibado, both ofWinter Haven; former wife, Imogene Stone, Titusville; 17 grandchildren;four great-grandchildren.

    Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Marion Nelson FuneralHome in Lake Wales. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at thefuneral home chapel."
