Obituary

Loving husband, father, brother and friend, Kenneth Dale Harmon, age 92, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017. He was born November 6, 1924 near Goshen, Ohio to wonderfulparents, Raymond and Emma Harmon. In 1942, Kenneth graduated from Midvale High School and proudly served his country for three years in the US Army during World War II in the Army Medical Corps. He was one of several brave, courageous, young men on a medical ship at Attu Island in the Aleutian Islands that recovered and treated the wounded in 1943. Ken later served as N.C.O. in charge of the Surgical Department at Mayo Army General Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois until his discharge from the Army in 1946. While there, Kenneth met a beautiful, civil service employee and on December 31, 1944, he married the love of his life, Betty Lou Schaefer from Burlington, Iowa. A marriage that would sustain 72 years of laughter, joy and many magnificent memories which they shared together. After his service in the military, he attended and graduated from Southwest Photo-Arts Institute in Dallas, TX in 1947. Both he and his brother, Raymond, ventured into business together, owning and operating the Harmon Photography Studio in Dover for 35 years. Kenneth was a life member of the Dover Elks; the Dover Moose and the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Holding God and country close to his heart, he was a 55-year member of the First United Methodist Church of Dover. Ken's hobbies included bowling, golf, woodworking and crafts, all of which he excelled at.

He is survived by his beloved wife and companion, Betty Harmon; their son, Tom Harmon (Cindy James); brother, Ronald (Joyce) Harmon along with many wonderful nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, Kenneth is preceded in death by his brother, Raymond (Fran) Harmon and his sisters, Eileen (Marion) Roberts, Evelyn (Jack) Sanford, and Mavis (Judge) Lindsay.

A graveside service will be led by Pastor David St. Aubin on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 11 AM in the Dover Burial Park, 5651 N. Wooster Avenue, Dover, Ohio 44622 where military honors will also be rendered. A reception will follow in the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N Wooster Avenue, Dover, Ohio 44622. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Kenneth's name to Dover United Methodist Church, 1725 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, Ohio 44622. Those wishing to do so may send the family a personal condolence and light a candle in remembrance of Kenneth by visiting the funeral home's website at www.GeibCares.com.
