8 December 1938 Monona Leader Kathryn Lestina Kathryn Lestina, one of the pioneers of this section of Iowa, passed away at the hone of her daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Marovets, at Ionia on Dec 7. Death was due to a heart attack. Kathryn Tinker Lestina, daughter of Albert and Rose Tinker, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 20, 1855. She was one of a family of four children. When a child, she moved with her parents on a farm near Cox Creek. On June 22, 1889, she was united in marriage with Frank Lestina. They then made their home on a farm near Beulah. In 1917 they moved to Monona, where Mr. Lestina passed away on June 16, 1928. Two years after, Mrs. Lestina went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Klima. A family of six children survive: Mrs. Frances Papachek of Warwick, N.D., Mrs. Rose Klima of Monona, Mrs. Anna Klima of Milwaukee, Mrs. Kathryn Marovets of Ionia, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Blietz of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Ben Lestina of McGregor. A son Edward passed away in 1936 and two sons died in infancy. Funeral services were held at St. Patricks Church at 9:00 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec 10. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father Donlon. Interment was made in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery at Beulah. Pallbearers were: Giles Blietz, Marion Blietz, Gerald Lestina, Leonard Marovets, Vincent Ambrose, John Havlicek, BL Whittle and Leo Steirt. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. JH Papachek, Warwick, ND, Mrs. Ben Klima, daughter Margaret, Marie Nelson and Mrs. Joe Opat of Milwaukee Wis., Mrs. Mary Blietz of PDD, Wis., Mrs. Kathryn Marovets and son Leonard of Ionia.
